About Chuck and Judy

Chuck was a lucky kid. He had a horse in his backyard when he was in High School. They had to keep the horse in town in the winter time, but as soon as summertime came, Chuck and horse were off to stay on his grandfather's ranch in eastern Oregon.  Judy had a horse too, unfortunately, it belonged to Red's riding academy, in the outskirts of Portland. Red's was one of those Dollar-an-hour-riding places.  The horse was so big that she had to climb up the saddle to ride him.  Chuck met Judy when her folks moved into his neighborhood. It was Judy's freshman year and Chuck's Senior year of high school. The two families lived seven (7) houses from each other and of course Chuck and Judy dated. They talked about getting married and their love of horses.  After graduating from high school and taking some college courses, they were married and bought 10 acres in Mountaindale, Oregon.

Their first horse was a Warm Springs Indian pony and named him "Spook". He was grayish white and looked ghostly. When Chuck got on him for the first time, Spook just stood there and shivered. He didn't buck!  Folks say that it was all of that TLC that Judy and Chuck gave Spook before the first ride. Chuck and Judy didn't know it then, but most mustangs have a good gait and Spook was a smooth riding pony. No one bounced when riding him! Judy's first horse was a big, 21 year old trail horse, "Big Red" and he was a being retired from his job of trail riding. Red was smart and knew a lot about being safe when horseback riding.  Infact, he probably saved Judy's life a few times.  As much as they loved their place and the horses, they decided to move their family from wet and rainy Oregon to warm and sunny Arizona.  Big Red was given away to friends with 10 kids and sold Spook to a riding stable.  The Chuck and Judy bought 7 acres in Arizona and began the search for horses that could live in a desert. After much research they decided on Utah's Sulphur Springs Zebra Duns.

They contacted an owner and after two or three years, Chuck and Judy, bought all he had.  After making many trips to the Utah mountains for horses, they decided to move to Utah.  They sold the small ranch in Arizona and purchased acreage in Utah.  The latest horse purchase is a ranch born Sulphur Springs mare, Desert Cielo, from the owner in Idaho.  Due to the glut of mustangs and formerly wild horses needing loving homes, foals are not forsale.

While doing genealogy the family found the name of CUBEL is from Northern Spain.  CUBEL is a town in the Zaragoza area of the Province of Aragón. In a community of Andalusia, in the country of Spain.  Sulphur Horses are Spanish too. Background on this page is the area's crest. Judy's great grandparents are from Germany and Bohemia.         Home
