| Teta Martin, an 81 year old cowgirl from
Arizona. She has been on cattle drives every spring and fall, for many
years. Teta is the wife and helper of Bill Martin. She and Bill were married in 1943. They live on and
manage the Martin Cattle Ranch, that has been in their family since 1907.
Teta works as hard as any man that Bill ever hired. Many times, Teta and
horse Coyote, were sent off alone to "round up" the momma cows and the new
calves that were hiding in the canyons and draws. Teta took a class to
legally carry a firearm. She has her bulls eye target hanging on her
livingroom wall. Teta may never be honored by the Cowgirl Hall of Fame, but
she will always be real cowgirl to me and I count her as one of my friends.
I took these photos of Teta when we were invited to go on a roundup. She is
riding a quarter horse, but one of her favorite horse's was a Coyote, a
Desert Dun Horse. She
always said that he was the best riding horse she ever owned. |

we got to meet Kay. We both purchased cattle from
Dickinson Longhorns.
We both waiting for a truck to come out west to get our longhorns.
Lucky for us, Kay was able to meet the truck in Denver. We met Kay at
her ranch to pick up our little red bull. Kay and her 3 dogs were recently
featured on the Rachael Ray Food Network Special presentation of Feeding
your Pets. (March 2008) |
