What is a
Sulphur Horse? Years of defending for themselves in Utah's Needle Range Mountains has
created this Sulphur Horse with rock solid legs, sound mind and feet of
steel. The ancient Iberian-Sulphur Horse is preserved from man's past! The most
common dun factor marking for the Primitive Sulphur Horse is the dorsal
stripe. The dorsal stripe usually runs from the base of the mane to the base
of the tail along the spine. Dark leg stripes up to the knee, ears are
pointed with a dark rim, neck and shoulder stripes (barring), facial cob
webbing, chest bars, fishbone marks along the dorsal, dark "eye liner"
encircles the eyes, the hooves are thick-walled and extremely tough, no need
for shoes, unless you are going across lava fields. Primitive Striped Sulphur
Horses have markings that are known as DUN FACTORS. The base color of the
mane of the horse must be darker for the horse to be considered a true dun.
These markings are darker than the body color and most often the same color
as the mane/tail. These horses are different than a Dun Colored horse, such
as a Buckskin.

In 1519 Spanish Conquistadors reintroduced HORSES, to the New
World. In 1606 plains Indian tribes of the Comanche, Pawnee, Dakota and the
Rocky Mountain Indians tribes of the Navajo, Paiute, Shoshoni, Crow, Blood
and Blackfeet all had horses. In
1630,
more horses were brought into Utah by the
Early Spanish explorers.
When Brigham Young arrived in the Salt Lake Valley
in 1846, the
Iberian-Sulphur
Mustang had been in Utah 240 years! Utah celebrates
the Pioneers, Utah should celebrate the
Iberian-Sulphur Horse. |

Ron Roubidoux's Sulphur Horses |
| Ron
Roubidoux was one of the first people who noticed these unique Striped Zebra
Sulphur Dun Horses. It was in 1996 and because of Ron Roubidoux's hard work to
introduce Sulphur's Chance to the public that the Sulphur Horses have world
recognition. Mustang Horses of the Southwest are in crisis. In 1971, when the
US Wild Free-Roaming Horse and Burro Act authorized the BLM to protect these
Wild Horses as a "National and Native Species", to live on "public lands" for
all to enjoy. Some might say, that Ron should have left the Sulphurs alone,
but if that were so, the Sulphurs would have no protection at all. At
least now, the Sulphurs have supporters from across the USA and "The World",
(Germany, Croatia, Ireland, UK and others), who know about and appreciate the
uniqueness of these beautiful, striped, Zebra Dun Horses. |

| Utah's Native Sulphur
Horses a Treasured and Endangered Herds, these unique Wild herd
of Sulphurs were a self sustainable herd for 240 years before the
first settler came to Utah.
The Sulphur Horse's ancestors rode with the Cowboys and Indians of the Old West, they
fought along side the Conquistadors and Spanish Colonists and the Army, use
thousands of
these valiant Mustangs were used in the wars and went into battle, many
losing their lives. |

The PURPOSE of
this Group is to encourage the Utah Senate and Congress to proclaim, the
Sulphur Mustang as Utah's Native Sulphur Horse, keeping the herd intact and in
Utah, forever! "United We Stand,
Divided We Fail" and if we fail, the
Iberian-Sulphur Horse are the real losers. They will lose their home, their
families and some will lose their lives! |
