THE SAN RAFAEL SWELL, UTAH

The San Rafael Swell is a heart-shaped up thrust of about 900 square miles of desert, domes, steep ridges and deep canyons, almost entirely within Emery County. The roadway from the top to the bottom cuts though this large area. It is almost un-believable at the size of the landscape, as it stretches for miles and miles across the desert floor. It can be seen from all around Castle Dale. Photos will show you the swell, but you have to come to see it. The area is breath taking, high vistas, low deserts, history, bank robbers, cowboys, wild horses, Indians, explorers and Conquistadors.
